SKIPPER James Ward-Prowse labeled the Saints’ summer business as “very exciting” – before saying it was the responsibility of established players to “make sure they were in the right mindset”.
St added four players to their first team aged 20 and under this summer, with new owners Sport Republic clearly putting their faith in youth.
The 27-year-old is preparing to enter his 11th pre-season as a Saints player after arriving at the club’s academy and the England squad International happy with the direction the club is heading.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Ward-Prowse said: “(It’s) very interesting. The new owners have arrived and have certainly shown a willingness to spend money and bring in the right types of players.
“Like I said, it’s important for us to have the right players around them to help them integrate into the team, because Premier League is intense.
“It’s a tough league to play. So we need to make sure they’re in the right position and position to play.”
Joel Aribo arrives at St Mary’s as the oldest new member, aged 26.
Speaking of his fellow midfielder, Ward-Prowse said: “He’s a great player, he’s played really well. I think what we like about him is his energy.
“He likes the pitch very well, he is aggressive, he wants to drive in defence and attack them. He seems like a Southampton and I can’t wait to see him play for Southampton. ”
